Background

When the team behind The Crate Cafe first came to us, the cafe didn’t exist yet, not even as a shell. Just a vision, a few drawings, and a brilliant idea to transform a forgotten car park in Bosham into a vibrant, indoor-outdoor cafe and bar with a strong sense of place and community.

From the beginning, it was clear they weren’t just opening a cafe. They were creating an experience – and they needed a partner who could help shape the brand, tell the story, and bring people on the journey.

Objectives

The challenge was to build something from nothing – to create an aspirational, recognisable brand that would resonate locally but feel bigger than Bosham. The team wanted to build a following before the doors even opened, generate real buzz around launch, and establish The Crate as a go-to destination, not just for great coffee and cocktails, but for atmosphere, events, and community. Long-term, the goal was to grow, and from the start, we knew this had the potential to become something much more than a one-off venue.

What We Did

We worked side by side with The Crate team from the ground up – as consultants, creatives, and collaborators. From developing the visual identity to mapping out the digital strategy, our role was to shape the brand in a way that matched their ambition and felt rooted in the space and story they were creating.

We built a website that was simple, stylish, and easy to find – focused on giving people the information they needed and a strong first impression of what the place was all about. As the build progressed, we helped build anticipation through local PR, email marketing and carefully planned communications, creating a sense of curiosity and buzz long before the doors opened. From telling the story of the build to announcing opening dates and special events, we worked closely with the team to generate excitement, manage messaging, and make sure The Crate launched with energy and impact.

Social media played a big part in building momentum, and we managed it fully in the run-up to launch and beyond – planning content, running shoots, writing captions, engaging with the local community and making sure the feed reflected the vibe people could expect in real life.

Throughout it all, we were there in the background, offering advice, helping make decisions, and providing strategic support that kept things on track as the business grew. From event promotions and PR opportunities to day-to-day content planning, we became part of the team.

The Results

Today, The Crate is a thriving venue that’s become a fundamental part of Bosham village life. It’s busy from morning coffees to evening cocktails, with a loyal following both online and off. The brand has grown with confidence and consistency, and a year after launching the Crate Cafe in Bosham, they opened a second venue in Portsmouth.

We’re still proud to support The Crate behind the scenes, and even prouder of how far they’ve come. From a blank canvas to a standout business, it’s been a story of brave ideas, collaborative thinking, and a brand that now speaks for itself.
